back to a solo project (02/07)

anthony has officially left alaskahighway to concentrate on his other projects. we may do select shows throughout the year, but moose is dedicating his time to work on his new main project called 'among the weeds' - another duo with moose working on the music with rose on vocals. link <here>.

even though the new album, which was finished, has been shelved until further notice moose is determined to work with other people to keep the alaskahighway name going.

this is not the end...

album being mixed (10/06)

we're pleased to announce that the second album, working title 'breaking the broken', has officially moved from the writing phase to the final mixing. it has taken a long time to get to this point but i know that everyone will be floored with the results.

early mix feedback has shown that these tracks are some of the best darkwave songs currently available anywhere...

supporting 'diary of dreams' at the key club in los angeles (07/06)

report : a short set, a mere 31 minutes, but gave us a chance to debut some new material, including the new opener 'the price of war' plus the shadowmaker live versions of 'event horizon' and 'uzumaki'. anthony & moose were joined on stage by 2 go-go dancers to add some glamour (as if the guys weren't enough to look at!) and will definitely be performing with us again!

our thanks to the whole crew at the key club who were excellent, and a big thank you to 'diary of dreams' for the support slot.

supporting 'diary of dreams' at the key club in los angeles (06/06)

july 6th, at the legendary key club in los angeles, will see alaskahighway returning to live scene in support of 'diary of dreams'. a chance to debut some new material, plus some old favourites remixed especially for the show...

new web site goes live (02/06)

with a combined move to the new web server, the latest reincarnation of the alaskahighway web site has been revealed. all data is now held on the same server so our url's should be easier to remember!

shadows on the wall - soundtrack release (02/06)

if you've been reading this news page you'll remember that 'aesthetic' was used in an independent movie called 'shadows on the wall'. well, the soundtrack has just been released through cafe press and can be bought from this link. tracks also from stromkern, endif, apraxia, the god project and many more...

live @ bar sinister : march 11th (01/06)

just confirmed : a return to bar sinister in hollywood california...

'breaking the broken' enters the final mix stage (01/06)

yay... we can finally announce that the second studio album, retitled 'breaking the broken' after one of the tracks, has entered the final stages of production. anthony has retracked all the vocals for the songs so they sound consistent, we're waiting delivery of a guest vocalist's audio tracks (which feature anthony on backing vocal) and then we're in to the album mix phase.

so, listen out at your local club as we'll be sending out DJ mixes once we are finalised, then have the album (hopefully) released in the summer.

web site redesign (10/05)

as well as our continual work on new tracks, we're currently redesigning the whole web site - new graphics, sound clips etc. stay tuned!

nine seventeen five live... (9/05)

playing at 'bar sinister' was a total blast for us, and everyone appeared to enjoy themselves. tricia, one of the main organisers of the club, commented 'not often do i see people dancing with bands performances...' so we must've done something right! the only complaint was that the 8 track set was too short, though we did keep within the guidelines for shows at the club.

we've already been asked back to perform there, which is great for a relatively unknown band, and rest assured that we will be playing a longer set!

audio files are available to download here

bob moog dies (8/05)

another sad day. bob moog, one of the pioneers of electronic music, died of brain cancer on the 21st of august. he was 71. we already miss you bob!

rehearsals (8/05)

anthony has returned from new orleans and the rehearsals for the live show in september are now forging ahead. all tracks are being remixed for the live show so expect something a bit different!

encoder remix (4/05)

thanks to brandon @ blcmusic for asking alaskahighway to remix a track for encoder's forthcoming debut single. 'november' has turned out really well and is certain to get the dance floors moving.

further details can be found here.

*update* : encoder ended up not signing to blcmusic, so this remix is now lost forever!

interbreeding iv : gefahrlich (11/04)

i've just seen that 'interbreeding iv' is currently no.2 on the metropolis charts - technically our highest ever chart position! the double disc features 'aesthetic' and a track from label-mates filament 38, plus some stunning artwork.

further details can be found here.

interviews online (10/04)

i've added a link to some interviews conducted after the summer of '02. head to the feedback page & click 'interviews'...

john peel dies (10/04)

the legendary bbc music dj john peel died in october and leaves a huge whole in the global music scene.

i remember back in 2000 that, completely out of the blue, i got a phone call with the unmistakable voice saying "hi, this is john peel from radio one...". he apologised for taking so long to play the alaskahighway cd (a mere 2 months after i dropped it off at the bbc in london) and i was totally in shock that he'd even bothered to phone up!  we had a chat about the music then i apologised for sounding so dense as i was suffering from jet lag (i'd returned from the u.s. the previous night) and so he let me go back to sleep...

some of his radio shows were all-time highlights, and thankfully the BBC will be releasing a few of them on their web site.

its really sad when the good guys die before their time is up...  i wish he could've been around forever.

state of synth pop 2005 (09/04)

i have just had confirmed that the previously named 'mishikawa club mix' of monowheel's never recover has been chosen for inclusion in the 'state of synth pop 2005' 6 cd set due out early next year. now called the 'alaska highway club mix', seeing as though it was totally reprogrammed by moose, this track is already getting a lot of club play.
so, congratulations to dave of monowheel for his first global release!

industrialnation no.20 (09/04)

alaskahighway have had 'attitudes of a difficult mind' reviewed in industrialnation no.20, probably the undergound's biggest published magazine.

our thanks to everyone at industrialnation & -ngp+...

myspace (09/04)

unable to withstand the march of technology we're now available on myspace.com...

itunes europe (08/04)

we're very glad to hear that 'attitudes...' is available for purchase through apple's itunes europe system, licensed from cdbaby.com. tom, aka sphynxx engine, heard our music online & bought the whole album... which is the way it should be!

thanks for the report tom.

interbreeding iv : gefahrlich (07/04)

i've just had confirmation from brandon @ blcmusic that the latest remix of 'aesthetic' will be included in the next installment of the interbreeding series, alongside fellow label mates filament38. thankfully the feedback from volume iii has been so huge that we're now, technically, repeat offenders!

further details can be found here.

shadows on the wall (6/04)

looks like we're going to the movies! independent film maker douglas struble has rewritten his short story 'shadows on the wall' in to a full length feature, scheduled to be made later on this summer. both 'the quay' and 'aesthetic' have been selected to be used in the movie, with 'the quay' currently slated for the closing credits! more details when we get them...

may releases (5/04)

2 pieces of good news! the interbreeding III : xenophobic compilation disc is now available to purchase from blcmusic and the remix of never recover is also available direct from monowheel. watch out for interbreeding IV news shortly!

remixes (4/04)

moose has recently finished 2 club remixes, one of alaskahighway's own 'deceiver', originally on 'attitudes of a difficult mind', and the other for the local band monowheel. "it was a bit of fun really... but they both turned out really well".

black sheep interview (3/04)

moose has recently been interviewed for the black sheep online magazine... link to blacksheepzine, select 'interviews' then look for us!

interbreeding III: xenophobic (3/04)

it has just been confirmed (i've seen the finalised artwork!) that alaskahighway are appearing on the next compilation release by blcmusic. entitled 'Interbreeding III: Xenophobic' this double-cd contains 34 tracks, all with the ebm / industrial theme, and includes an exclusive mix of the track 'breaking the broken' set to appear in a different form on our follow-up album 'butterfly in china'.
if the music is as good as the cover then it is going to be awesome!

further details can be found here.

IndustrialnatioN (3/04)

the second cd sound sampler compilation from IndustrialnatioN features 16 bands from around the world, and includes a slightly different mix of 'darkness in my eyes'.

first live session (2/04)

just completed the first rehearsals of the new live set with guitar from special guest rich ford. the old tracks sound much harder & rich really adds depth to the new songs, 4 of which will be debuted.

new album... (1/04)

we're continuing work on tracks for the new album, entitled 'butterfly in china', which should be available in the summer on negative gain. 5 tracks have already past demo stage and will debuted at a gig we're trying to schedule for february in los angeles - confirmed details will be posted on the 'live shows' page as soon as possible.

stay tuned...

compilation... (12/03)

more good news! we've just had confirmed that the track 'darkness in my eyes' is to appear on the next IndustrialnatioN compilation cd which is to be given away free with the IndustrialnatioN magazine in europe, and also available as IndustrialnatioN related events.

this will get the alaskahighway name to several thousand new pairs of ears, so hopefully the word will travel far. fellow label mates cruciform injection are also appearing on the compilation too...

the distribution chain... (12/03)

yay, good news... metropolis are now the official worldwide distributors for the album! so, in theory, you should be able to buy the album online from http://www.industrial-music.com or order it from any decent record store wherever you live. this is a major step for all the artists on the -ngp+ label, including emergence, filament38 & cruciform injection.

on the shelves... (11/03)

we are pleased to announce that southern californian music lovers can now buy the debut album from rhino records. thanks to chuck oken for stocking the cd. your support is appreciated...

alaskahighway spreads east... (10/03)

information about the new album is spreading east... i received an email this morning with details of the synthpop.ru web site - a russian synth-pop service.

translation:

negative gain announced the release of the debut full-format "attitudes of a difficult mind" the most interesting californian project alaska highway. ah successfully combines gothic and synthpop, blend it and play modern industrial and electro-pop music. multi-leveled agressive percussion, doses of dance bass, dark lyrics, outrageous energy of music of alaska highway brings great approval from audience. hurry to hear!!! ps: vocal part on "seen to run" is by frank m. spinath (seabound).

mmm... sounds familiar!

album release... (10/03)

'attitudes of a difficult mind' is now available to buy! thanks for everyone at negative gain for all of their efforts.

butterfly in china... (09/03)

alaskahighway's second album is already under construction... 2 tracks have reached 'danceable demo' status (great initial reactions from the beta team) with 4 more in the pipeline. delivery in the 2nd quarter of '04 is a probability, depending on record company schedules.

the cerebral silence connection... (08/03)

after a chance encounter outside club101's aborted gig in arcadia, moose is now working as additional programmer, sample merchant & producer for a local band called 'cerebral silence'. this fits very well into anthony's other commitments as he's otherwise engaged for the whole of october. moose has already worked on four cerebral silence tracks and there are plans to get the band live with a 5-7 song set some time in october. definately industrial-dance & worth checking out...

watch out for news of joint alaskahighway/cerebral silence gigs after hallowe'en...

the album is finished... (07/03)

we are pleased to finally announce that the debut album from alaskahighway is finished, and being delivered to the record company early august. the few people who have heard the whole album are totally stunned by what they heard which i can only think is a good thing! release is set for early october...

70 minutes and 10 seconds : 16 tracks including one club remix of 'weep with me' by mishikawa. we wanted to put on more remixes but simply ran out of space on the cd. no doubt these remixes will appear on an club e.p. or something in the near future...

first release! (06/03)

as a way to celebrate our first live shows we've released our debut performance from the red devil lounge in san francisco on an enhanced cd. strictly limited to 99 copies we're sure that these individually numbered & autographed cds will quickly become collectors items once the studio albums hit the shelves.

the first 2 gigs (06/03)

wow, what fun they were! small crowds in both san francisco (the red devil lounge on polk street) & los angeles (the whisky on sunset) but those who did attend loved the shows. no technical problems in 'frisco but anthony's stage monitors weren't loud enough at the whisky, so he had some problems hearing what was going on - i don't think anyone in the crowd noticed as he battled on regardless.

we thoroughly enjoyed the experience, supporting then supported by emergence, and can't wait to get out to do more shows. the next one is a local ebm night in arcadia (just east of pasadena) as a showcase for some local ebm talent - see the 'live shows' page for details.

so, the ball is rolling...

first press coverage! (06/03)

we've completed an interview for the local paper - the inland valley's 'daily bulletin'... our first ever! publication is scheduled for june 20th, just in time for people to read it and head west to the whisky!

we're trying to get permission to have it appear on our website, so watch out for the link.

more d.j. mixes (04/03)

2 new tracks for the album, 'weep with me' and 'lust for your body', will be hitting the clubs in chicago & washington d.c. this week. the initial reaction to these hard e.b.m. tracks from the close circle of beta testers has been *very* promising so i'll report the club verdict when i get it.

also, the collaboration with seabound's vocalist frank m. spinath has resurfaced with a remix of the track 'seen to run'. both frank and anthony like the direction of the new mix of this old song (actually written back in '98) & the track will hopefully be appearing on the album...

confirmed live dates (03/03)

we now have 2 live dates confirmed for june in conjunction with 'emergence' : san francicso on the 22nd & los angeles on the 23rd. see the 'live shows' sections for more details

album written? (03/03)

we have nearly all the songs for the album written, just the small case of mixing (or remixing) the tracks to make them all sit together on the cd. anthony is planning on resinging all the vocals on one day so they sound the same too - its surprising just how different each day's demo vocals actually sound.

so we'll probably have the album with -ngp+ before the end of april, just in time to get them printed for the mini-tour in june.

we do plan to record the whisky gig for release, so any of you who can't get to los angeles won't miss out on our first headlining gig in our home town...

dj feedback (02/03)

2 new tracks will be hitting the clubs in the next couple of weeks - 'deceiver' and 'fatal resistance'. both tracks have been written quite quickly but are sounding great. the pop mix of 'deceiver' is surprisingly catchy, though 'fatal resistance' is more in the style of the album material. check out the music page for sneak previews...

dj feedback (12/02)

the feedback from the initial mixes of 'intelligence war' have been very encouraging. apparently people have been asking for more information on the band at the venues... must be doing something right then!

dj release (08/02)

we are in the process of sending out test cds to several club & radio dj's to get a crowd reaction to the 'intelligence war' mixes. they sound fine in our studio but it is better to get a club reaction before the disc is finalised & pressed.

if you are a club or radio dj then please drop us an email telling us where you play & we'll get you a cd.

dot com (08/02)

well, some great news for a change! alaska highway can now drop the online part of the domain name as we now own alaskahighway.com... we will run both names for a while longer just in case.

long story : back when i wore shorts i missed out on the purchase of this domain name by a week - a company up in canada was commissioned by the alaskan tourist board (or someone similar) for a job and when it fell through they refused to sell the name for anything less than $5,000 (even after a $10 bid on an ebay sale!). this rose to $15,000 where it stayed for some time with the only interest coming from us, though not at that price! they must have got bored of the $15 renewal... so, the story ends!
