neurozine.com - review of 'attitudes of a difficult mind' jan 2006

Alaska Highway is probably the most impressive I've heard within the dark synthpop genre for a long time, even though the band musically sometimes is slower than a couple in love in Visby on a summer evening. Still I fell in love with many of the tracks that are on this debut album.

Gloomy, danceable synthpop with some inlays of industrial makes it easy to draw parallels to VNV Nation, even though it's not completely fair to compare the two. A heavier De/Vision is probably more correct. Anthony and Moose have anyway done a great job and you notice really fast with the first track "Weep With Me". Even though I think the instrumental tracks "Intelligence War" and "Radio Prague" pull the mood down it doesn't make any difference since the bring us songs like "Butterfly In A Glass Jar", "Who Can You", "Fatal Resistance", "Even Angels Have To Die" and absolutely amazing "Hell Bound Heart". With songs like that it's hard to fail and then I haven't mentioned all my favourites on this album.

Beautiful and wonderful.

connexion bizarre

Alaska Highway's debut album, "Attitudes of a Difficult Mind", contains a myriad of crafty influences from goth-pop and industrial acts young and old. These add to the flavor of the music a sense of restrained aggression belied by the synthpop-ish intonations courtesy of Moose and Anthony.

Intelligent use of sampling and veteran-like mixing coupled with emotionally charged, appropriately keyed lyrics/vocals blend seamlessly into a professional quality studio album. To this author's ear, Alaska Highway's sound could be a mix between Nitzer Ebb and Iris, coming off with darkish music and lighter vocals... If one were so inclined to draw a comparison between the two.

Attitudes is quite a good album and is definitely worth picking up considering the substantial amount of high quality/enjoyable tracks it contains ("Weep with me", "Lust for your Body", "Deceiver", "Fatal Resistance", etc!). Final score: nine out of ten habenero peppers. Kudos on the debut, Alaska Highway.

"Briefly: new boys came to redefine electronic music in no more than 70 minutes. The material's an irresistible and precise punch in the otherwise standing water, so rush to your nearest album dealer and buy it. NOW.

The very first impressions before the first listening. A kind of a childhood excitement took over me and I really hoped that I do not have to be disappointed. Let me clear it up, no signs of disappointment, nowhere, none."

"the show was outstanding, to be honest. yes, anthony's vocals were a little too present - he has an amazing voice - no question - but the music is actually equally amazing. surprisingly you guys have a very good stage presence... there's also a lot to do with the competence of the performers. while you were clearly quite nervous, you were also obviously in your element after a few minutes..."

"I've heard a lot of the material and have had the opportunity to see Alaska Highway live. Probably the best way to categorize the bulk of the music is "innovative". It floats through several different styles, mixing quite a few - industrial, ebm, pop with some sounds that are bordering on techno - all done tastefully. Typically with experimental and innovative music you get something you can't put your finger on and would prefer to not be exposed to it at all. But Alaska Highway's work is not like that. It doesn't have that "experimental" flavor to it - you know it's different, but it's not kludged like a lot of experimental material is. I can't say that I personally like all of it - but there's a lot of material that's really outstanding and it is all worth a listen. Aside from that is the fact that Moose is excellent at the mixer and really knows how to churn out something that sounds clean and uncluttered."

reddevillive... limited edition cd

"Alaska Highway kicks ass !!! I have heard it and I admit that these guys sound great. Their music is different than the typical synthpop sound, especially since I see a lot of POP put into Industrial music, and that makes it cool. If you are looking for a dark synthpop sound with an Industrial twist....check out Alaska Highway !!"
